NFTs are everywhere in the news, so what exactly is an NFT?
To start off, NFTs are short for non-fungible tokens. It is a digital form of art that is unique. It means that even if there are multiple copies of the same digital art, there is only ever one true copy of it that you can own!
Ever notice how physical art pieces are always plagued with fake copies and the majority of masses can’t tell between a fake and a real one?

You’ll have to be a trained Provenance (art appraiser) to know the difference between real and fake Mona Lisa!
NFTs solve exactly that! Built on the existing crypto tech known as blockchain, owning one validates that your art is real and you are the owner of the only copy ever in existence! They serve as digital certificates of authenticity.
In short, it means your NFT is validated by many other users as the one true copy.
However, there can still be some forgeries so it is advisable to do your own due diligence such as reading about the founder, the team, and the roadmap of the NFT project.

New World Carnival’s NFT Gallery on display
New World Carnival's New World NFT Gallery (yes, there are NFT galleries in Singapore) is located at Somerset where NWC is collaborating with local Singapore NFT artists to display their digital art.
Other than displaying the digital art in physical form, you can actually purchase them directly by scanning the QR code with your Opensea NFT account if the art is available for purchase.
There’s even a discord chat and social media handles for you to find out more! The NFT art gallery is more than just a gallery. It's an interactive art gallery.
So why would you want to own an NFT?
A digital artist Beeple (viewer discretion advised if you google him) who until then was unknown and only ever sold a print for $100, sold his first NFT pair for $66,666.66 each! A huge amount of money for a father of two who’s driving a Toyota corolla.
And that’s not the end, in March 2021, this NFT Everydays - The First 5000 Days sold for a record breaking whopping $69 million USD!

See where this is going?
NFTs are fast becoming another avenue of investment (not financial advice) as the next big thing and with real-life value.
There are many other successful NFT projects such as Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mega Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Cryptopunk, and Azuki just to name a few. The first has real-life exclusive access to yacht clubs, with NWC’s founder owning some of them.
In a nutshell, owning an NFT can have exclusive perks such as discounts in stores and special invites only. Its value might also increase over time as more people find them more valuable.
Other than the real-life offline benefits above, owning NFTs can have online benefits as well. Once you own one, you’re already part of a community with people from everywhere in the world. You’ll also have access to NFT staking, their metaverse projects, exclusive airdrops, first-hand info on updates (think premium club memberships), etc!
That said, you still have to do your own due diligence when buying NFTs!
